I had that luck to have acne when I was a teenager and a chance to learn a lot about the skin care and protection from UV rays. When I was a child my mom always made me wear sunscreen. Back then it was only when we were at the seaside or at the skiing. When I became a teenager, my problem with acne started. That's when I realized how important is to wear sunscreen every day. I feel so grateful for it. I wanted to write a post about why is so important to wear SPF on a daily basis because so many people around me don't wear it all, not even when they go to the beach. Often misconception about wearing SPF is that you won't get tanned if you wear it and people end up not wearing it!
I find it okay that people don't wear SPF through the year because they don't know that they should. But I find it very bad when people don't wear it when they go to the seaside or to the skiing because you are protecting yourself and your health. You can't say you don't want to wear it because you won't get tanned! Your health should be in the first place, always!
Let's chat for a second about UV rays. There are two kinds of ultraviolet rays emitted from the sun: UVA (Ultraviolet radiation) and UVB. UVB rays are the ones that cause sunburn and their intensity varies from summer to winter. UVA rays have the same intensity during summer and winter. It's important to know that UVA rays are the ones that penetrate deeper into your skin and can cause skin aging and skin cancer. UVA damage is not reversible and we must protect ourselves at all times of the year from these rays.
➸ First and most important you should wear sunscreen to protect your skin from getting cancer. There's no excuse when it comes to wearing sunscreen all year long and especially during the summer. Skin is our biggest organ and we should take care of it! When you are looking for a cream with SPF you should pay attention that on the cream says broad spectrum - it means it protects you from UVA and UVB rays.
➸ Wearing sunscreen protects you from getting wrinkles and premature aging! What do you need more! This is the best anti-aging product you can ever use. It keeps your skin looking healthy, glowy and without spots and wrinkles.
➸ Sunscreen helps you maintain even skin tone. If you don't use SPF you can get brown spots that are very hard to remove and we all know how annoying is to have spots. They are much harder to remove than the ones from acne.
➸ Your skin can get damaged from UV rays even if it's cloudy! According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, up to 80 percent of the sun’s UV rays can pass through clouds. This is exactly how you end up getting sunburn on cloudy days when they have been outside and not wearing sunscreen. Also, remember that winter sports can expose us to more harmful rays because the snow can reflect up to 80% of the harmful UV rays increasing your exposure and UV radiation is also higher at higher elevations.
Next time you go out, don't forget to put on your sunscreen! Remember to apply SPF 30 minutes before you leave because it takes that long to ingredients to fully bind to the skin.
Do you wear sunscreen every day?
I'm so glad you decided to write about this. I wear sunscreen every single day even if Im just going to be in an office and I don't get how people can't realize how important this is. Now, I try to convince my boyfriend to wear some but he doesn't listen unless we're on vacation.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your comment! I'm happy to hear that you wear SPF :) I know, they are so stubborn! My boyfriend wears it only on vacation as well.
DeleteSuch an important reminder! I recently switched to Eucerin too and I find it amazing :)

I'm glad that it works for you! :)
DeleteThis is a great topic to write about. Sunscreen is an important part of a daily routine but so often we forget to put it on while the summer sun isn't with us. This is a great reminder to apply it daily.
ReplyDeleteI'm extremely light skinned and have the most sensitive skin ever... If I'm not careful, I get sunburned super quickly and my skin gets really damaged... Right now I'm doing an acne treatment and I can' twear any spf at all, it's been nightmare... 5 minutes in the sun and I get the driest skin :/
ReplyDeleteIt is really important to use sunscreen protection everyday for UV rays. and this is such a great reminder.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great article! I am glad you stress the importance of sun protection, I see many people neglect this important step. I have become very obssessive with sunscreen application and re-application when I was old enough to take care of myself. Before that my mother never really cared, she thought the most "natural the better" and by natural I mean without sunscreen. Now that I'm a mom myself, I'm determined to do quite the opposite, I kind of over protect my children, and not only cover them in sunscreen (yes even in the city) but I also get them special anti-uv clothes for the beach and outdoors, lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy I'm not the only one who sees how important is to apply sunscreen!
DeleteThank you for your comment Natalia :)
Sunscreen has always been the underdog when it comes to skin care. I am glad that you also mentioned how the sun affects us equally during summer and winter. The only I've used with satisfaction so far are Clinique's. Maybe I should take a look at some of those other options.
ReplyDeleteI try to put sunscreen on myself and my kids, especially when we are outdoors for a few hours. Thanks for the tips!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, Katie :) <3
DeleteI know the importance of sunscreen, but sometimes it's so difficult to do the 30min before going out because I'm always in a rush! That's why I always prefer makeup with some sunscreen protection!
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that protection in makeup isn't enough because we would need to apply a lot of foundation to be sure that we are protected. You can apply spf cream first thing in the morning in that way you'll be sure that you are protected. :)
DeleteThank you for your comment Tiffany <3
Thanks for educating us about the importance of wearing sunscreen. People like myself, with deep complexions often forgo wearing it, but we need it too. Great post!
