We all know how much social media affects our lives. If you
are a blogger or someone who spends hours & hours on social media, it's
really easy to get addicted without even realizing it. So today I wanted to
talk about how not to let social media take control of your life, not just
social media but your phone. You need to get in control of it and not let
social media control your moves. I know it sounds silly but it truly is like
that.
My "enlightenment" started few months ago when i
first turned off notifications for my Instagram account. It was interfering
with my normal activities. When I publish a photo and my phone is constantly
telling me about the likes and comments, so I decided to turn it off. It was
really hard at the beginning as you really get addicted and you have a need to
know who’s liking your stuff every minute. After some time it became normal,
now I don't mind it at all.
As you could tell, I was absent from my blog for almost two
weeks. I had to take a break to study for my exams. I was really battling with
my phone. When it was in my hand I couldn't stop myself from checking Instagram,
Viber, WhatsApp or Pinterest. First thing I decided to do, is to keep my phone
really far away from me. Now, I leave it in my bedroom when I'm studying or working,
it really helps to be more focused and productive. Next thing I did was turning
notifications off for Messenger, Viber and WhatsApp and oh my, what a relief!
Then I realized how I took control of my phone and not vice versa. It's so much
easier!
I think everyone should do it, because there wouldn't be
unpleasant pauses when you are talking to someone and suddenly other side is
watching at his/hers phone because someone messeged them or they’ve got an Instagram notification.
Turn off your notifications and turn on your life!

I think it is great that you starting to work on yourself, I agreed that social media is very addicting thing! I stopped caring about IG a while ago. Too much stress

That jacket tho! <3
ReplyDeleteThis is a really great post and couldn't have come at a better time ! It's true ! The notifications can be a major distraction so it's a great idea to turn them off. Really love the look here too! So unique and pretty!
ReplyDeleteYou look amazing in the patched jacket Ana! I've switched off IG notifications donkey ages ago because they were simply too irritating and sucking my battery life *LOL* Good call that you switched off yours too ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's really important that we keep our phone away so that we can truly connect with our loved ones whilst they are still alive and yup it's real hard to do it. Trust we will get to do it with determination!

I totally agree!
ReplyDeleteI try to stay away from using my phone on the weekend as sort of a detox and break from social media. I also make sure I don't use my phone when I'm with company because I hate when people do that with me so i try to be respectful!

I totally agree - I set times that I put away my phone so I can deal with life and my kids and people always complain they can't get ahold of me LOL. Too bad. Everyone should take a break sometimes!. And I need this patchwork jacket ASAP! So good!

I totally agree with your title "Don't let your phone steal your life" it's really hard sometimes but you have to switch off for your own sanity lol (I do it every weekend) Also I love that jacket the badges give it that old school 90's vibes and remind me of the shirt I used to wear when I was in the scouts also covered in cool badges. ;)
ReplyDeleteTotally Agree with you, Social media is Dangerous sometimes... we spend to much time there and we forget our Real Life :(
ReplyDeleteThis Notification thing a very Good Idea:)

I absolutely LOVE this post! I think when you start blogging you don't realize all at once the transition that happens from living life to zoning out on your phone "working" all the time. The past 6 months for me have been similar to you in I knew that I needed to me more tuned in to actual life then my notifications. I literally turned off ALL notifications. I have designated work times and that's the only time I engage or respond to emails. I can tell you that my street level has gone down and my creativity has gone up!

What a great post! I am guilty of being on the phone all the time, but I agree that it's important to take a break.

Hello Ana!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post.I realize also how we live in the disease of the century.
As bloggers that work on social is difficult, but often it takes a bit of detachment and return to reality.
Sending love from ITALY.

I'm actually the worst when it comes to social media. My notifications are ALWAYS off and I miss lots of comments! However, I have to admit that I feel much better by being more present in real life as opposed to being on social media 24/7!
